It was Versailles before Versailles : a spectacular palace home to 19 French kings, built in the heart of Paris. A marvel in architectural ambition and innovation. It’s story spans 2000 years, beginning with Jules Caesar’s invasion of Gaulle and ending with Marie Antoinette’s imprisonment in its dungeons as she awaited execution. Ultimately paved over by successive government buildings, the palace would slowly be erased from view and memory. Now, a team of young experts known internationally for their 3D models of monuments in peril will resurrect the palace from its grave. What did this palace look like? How was it constructed and evolve over time? And why was it suddenly abandoned?
